Questions, Answers and Links ⁉️

If the setting is not saved, the banner would just come back on the next page. But to save the setting at all, a cookie needs to be stored. But without consent, I shouldn't be storing cookies at all. That's not how other pages handle it, but I believe this is how it should be handled. I'm building this page like I want the rest of the internet to be. So no cookies without consent. You don't need to accept it to access the page anyway. It only blocks the features that store settings in the cookies. Sure, it's a little in the way, but you can scroll past it without any problems.

Why don't you use Facebook Comments or disqus like everyone else?

I used to use disqus. It had only one advantage: it's not Facebook. But it has quite a big downside: it's slow as molasses. The script is served quite awful: it redirects several times. If I were to autoload it, it would weigh down all Page Speed rankings by at least 20%. Sometimes, technology sucks. And then, there are the privacty considerations, I don't want to force my users to give their data to data krakens. So now, I'm using a Netlify construction. Yes, it takes a while until the comment is shown, but it works. Plus, it doesn't give your data to any data krakens. I can actually remove the comments upon request, should someone ever request that to me.

Why do you host on Netlify?

Again, I want to concentrate on writing the novel, not fix stuff myself. Plus, I'm using Markdown anyway, so any place that handles markdown was just the place to go. I used to use GitHub Pages, but GitHub is missing a lot of features, both on the repository side as well as on the hosting side. GitLab happens to be better with the repository side, and Netlify happens to be the only place that supports setting custom HTTP headers and proper 30x redirects.

What Software do you use?

It's ever-changing. Please see my blog post on blog technology for more details.

Where do read Web Fiction?

To list a few:

There's a lot more. But there are also some pages, that I don't recommend. Especially those big ones, that never work and don't even bother with SSL.

Why do you give attribution for CC-O/royalty-free/attribution-free images?

Just because I don't have to give attribution doesn't mean I'm not allowed to. It's not my skill that created those images.

Why does it say Text to Speech is not supported on my browser?

While I'm using the talkify library, I'm relying on the browser to provide the actual functionality. Some browers just don't offer it.

My Question isn't here!
